Moscow: Once again Viswanathan Anand proved his mettle, as he outperformed Levon Aronian of Armenia in the ninth round of the Candidates Chess tournament on Monday.
Anand looked desperate for a victory. Playing with white pieces, Anand was able to implement his plans well. Anand managed to control all the stages of the game for his third victory of the tournament.
After this victory, Anand has 5.5 points in his bag from nine games. Viswanathan Anand now shares the lead with joint leader Sergey Karjakin of Russia.
Anand, one of the favourites of the tournament is now in a great position to play a third match with Magnus Carlsen of Norway for the World Championship.
The Indian ace was in his technical elements against Aronian, against whom he has had a good score off late. The black pieces gave a psychological disadvantage to Aronian. Aronian went into shell letting Anand to take control of the situation.
