London: Winger Mikel Oyarzabal struck an early goal as Barcelona suffered their second successive defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad 1-0 in their La Liga clash at Anoeta Stadium on Sunday.
Oyarzabal’s winner in the fifth minute of the match was enough to beat Barcelona, who was playing without their top scorer Luis Saurez due to suspension, the Guardian reported.
Earlier, Real Madrid ended Luis Enrique’s side 39-match unbeaten streak by claiming a 2-1 win over the European champions in their La Liga clash at Camp Nou.
It was for the first time since Enrique took charge as a manager in 2014 that Barcelona went three league games without a victory.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona continued to remain at the top of the La Liga table, with Atletico Madrid standing at the second spot followed by Real Madrid.
Barcelona will now lock horns with Valencia on April 18.
