Manchester United are ‘going backwards’

London: Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United are ‘going backwards’ under Louis van Gaal, and the club fans should be worried about his comments after the embarrassing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs kept alive their title challenge with a 3-0 win over the Reds on Sunday at White Hart Lane.

Carragher said he does not picture van Gaal at United next season if the Reds fail to make it to the top four. Going by the form and tactics the Old Trafford team has been adopting of late, it seems unlikely that the Dutch manager-led team will qualify for the next year’s Champions League.

Carragher was also full of praise for Tottenham Hotspur saying they could have scored in excess of five goals.

Next up, United face West Ham United at Upton Park in a FA Cup quarter-final replay on Wednesday evening.
