London: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Sunday ruled out his team’s chances of winning the English Premier League (EPL) title given the advantage Leicester City have taken. Wenger said that Arsenal are now looking at qualifying for next year’s Champions League.
Wenger’s comments came in the wake of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against 16th placed Crystal Palace.
Alexis Sanchez put the Gunners ahead just before half time as Arsenal hoped to take home three points. Yannick Bolasie, however, had other plans. An 81st minute strike put Palace back on level terms clinching a point from a match many expected them to lose by a big margin.
Arsenal have been under a lot of negative attention for their recent performances that has seen the Gunners slip down to the fourth position after maintaining a healthy lead at the top of the table.
With just five games to go, Arsenal trail leaders Leicester City by 13 points. Reaching the top again seems pretty unlikely for Wenger’s eleven.
Admitting that all the teams were performing really well, Wenger believes that his side had to fight till the end to secure a top four Premier League finish.
Arsenal will play their next league match against West Brom at home ground on Friday
