London: Tottenham Hotspur continued their ruthless form as the second-placed team on the English Premier League (EPL) overwhelmed Stoke City 4-0 at Britannia Stadium on Tuesday.
The in-form Harry Kane, more popular as the ‘Hurricane’ for his recent exploits, and Dele Alli scored two goals each to beat ninth-placed Stoke and close in on the league leaders Leicester City. The Spurs are now just five points behind with four games left as they look to claim their first league championship since they did the ‘Double’ in 1961.
Kane put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute with his 23rd goal of the EPL season and 26th in all competitions after picking up a pass from Moussa Dembele. Kane had missed an opportunity in the sixth minute.
Midfielder Dele Alli then doubled his side lead in the 67th minute before Kane rolled in the third one just four minutes later to take his EPL tally to 24 goals. It was in the 82nd minute when Alli smashed another goal to pile further misery on Stoke City and to give the Spurs their ninth away victory of the season.
The England international looks all set to end up as the highest goal scorer of the season with Jamie Vardy at 19 goals. Vardy is sure to miss his next match at home against Swansea City and his trip to Manchester United on May 1 if the Football Association (FA) has its way.
Tottenham play their next match against West Brom on April 26.
