London: While shedding some light on the financial aspect of the game, Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has disclosed that professional footballers earn ‘ obscene’ amounts of money and ‘live in a bubble’.
The Spanish international, who is believed to earn around 150,000 pounds per week, admitted that football is very well remunerated at the current level, adding that players earn ridiculous amount as compared to the rest of society, the Guardian reported.
Mata further said that he would happily accept a pay cut if football became less business-like, insisting that he loves the game, training and competing.
Commenting on the current crop of young players, the midfielder criticised those players’ attitude who become arrogant after turning professional.
Mata moved to United from Chelsea for a reported 40 million pounds in 2014.
