Mongolia: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Wednesday said that four wrestlers including Olympian and CWG gold medallist Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari could face a possible ban for gross indiscipline.
Sumit, freestyle wrestler in 125 kg category, and sisters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, could face the repercussions for failing to appear for their bouts after their attempts to win Olympic berths ended in the previous rounds.
Another wrestler Rahul Aware is facing action for leaving the team when it was travelling to Georgia for the training camp. Alleging bias towards Sandeep Tomar, Aware left from the airport in haste.
In an exclusive interview to NewsX, Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan said, "We are about to show cause them for failing to turn up for their bouts after their attempts to win Olympic berths ended in the previous rounds."
“We have asked the coaches to send their reports based on which we will send the notices. The wrestlers will be given 10 days to respond to the charges. If found guilty, sentences ranging from a year’s ban to life ban could be slapped,” Sharan added.
