New Delhi: The under-fire Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Friday approached cricket legend and former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar to be the Brand Ambassador at the Rio Olympics 2016. Reports also said that music maestro AR Rahman is also on IOA’s radar.
"IOA has sent a formal request urging him to be a Brand Ambassador for Rio contingent. However, Tendulkar is yet to respond to the IOA," a top official said.
IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta had earlier said, in a statement, that Salman was not going to be the only face of the Indian Olympics contingent.
There has been a raging debate over the choice of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as India’s goodwill ambassador for Rio Olympics, splitting the nation into two sides – for and against.
A huge controversy had erupted soon after Salman was roped in as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Summer Olympics, with athletes and other celebrities questioning his contribution to the sport. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt had also slammed the move and accused Salman of trying to promote his upcoming film ‘Sultan’ using the quadrennial event.
