New Delhi: Garbiñe Muguruza claimed her first grand slam title and denied Serena Williams a 22nd Grand Slam with a stunning peformance in the French Open final on Saturday.
Muguruza made sure that the 22nd win for Serena didn't come easy and gave super competition to outplay the 3-time French Open winner. So far Muguruza has made two final appearances — Wimbeldon 2015 and French Open 2016.
The Spaniard finally managed to convert the French Open final to grab her maiden Grand Slam title. Muguruza scored multiple breaks on Williams and despite issues with double faults and her second serve in general, displayed great skills good enough to push Williams to the edge and ultimately claim the straight-set victory. The fourth seed took the first set 7-5 and registered a 6-4 win in the second.
Serena Williams, who is stuck on 21 Grand Slam titles, one short of Steffi Graf would have to wait a little more to equalise her dream record of 22 Grand Slams
