New Delhi: It was a dream unfulfilled for Indian tennis star Leander Paes when his counterpart Rohan Bopanna picked Saketh Myneni to represent India in the men's doubles event at the Rio Olympics in Brazil. But the All India Tennis Association (AITA) is having none of Bopanna's enthusiasms in picking Saketh. Overturning Bopanna's decision, the AITA has chosen Leander Paes to partner with Bopanna at the Rio Olympics.
The AITA is set to overturn Bopanna's decision for the Rio Olympics 2016 and will probably choose Leander Paes for his experience and particularly for his ATP ranking which is above Saketh.
Rohan Bopanna, whose career high ranking is No. 3, chose the less-experienced Saketh Myneni over Leander Paes. The AITA does not seem to entertain Bopanna's intention in recruiting the rookie for a fresh performance at the Olympics. Leander Paes, if selected, will be appearing for a record 7th time at the Olympics to represent India.
There is a provision that allows players to choose their partner at the Olympics, but whatever the choice, the ultimate decision trickles down to the selection committee where the performance and the ability of the player will be considered and ruminated upon.
