New Delhi: Spain’s Euro 2016 campaign began with a 1-0 win against Czech Republic which came by a late header from Gerad Pique, who converted an amazing pass from Andres Iniesta and pocketed the first win for the Country in the Euro 2016.
The game progressed steadily as Spain dominated the possession and kept the ball rotating in their shed, creating very few chances for them to score. And the few chances that they did have were missed out because the Spanish attack lacked accuracy. Probably the force that Spain is known for was missing, until the little genius Iniesta, pitched in a brilliant corner between the Czech defenders and goalkeeper. Iniesta, lurked on the left of the box after a half-cleared corner and Pique grabbed it well with a strong header into the corner from a few yards to give Spain the lead in the match.
For the Czech Republic their shot stopper Petr Cech did some good work at the nets ensuring no goal until the 87th minute of the game. The Czech defence too was tight denying the Spanish any chances of scoring. A few of the chances that were created by Spain’s playmakers Alvaro Morata, Jordi Alba and David Silva were denied as the cutting edge was missing in the attack to get the chances converted.
In the upcoming matches, Spain would definitely want to improve on their attack to bring some action-packed encounters for their fans and keep up the rhythm on for their hunt of the 3rd European title. Czech Republic we hope have taken a lesson from this game — not to lose out on the ball too often and compete for possession as much as possible.
