New Delhi: Former athlete and Olympian Anju Bobby George has stepped down as the Sports Council Chief after reports of her being forced to quit from the position emerged in the national attention. George, who was accused by the current Kerala sports minister of corruption charges during her reign, demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
A few other officials along with Anju Bobby George are reportedly set to resign from their positions. George, who was appointed by the Oommen Chandy government last year as president of the Council, got a reproof from the minister when she went to meet him after he took over. The minister told her that a lot of corruption had taken place during her tenure, to which George reacted and asked for a probe.
Anju Bobby George also reported alleged harassment against her by the Kerala Sports Minister E.P. Jayarajan and said her post is being eyed upon. She also sought help from the 'Sports Authority of India' but faced disappointment as any support to the former Olympian was denied.
E.P. Jayarajan, the Kerala sports minister who recently came into limelight when he called the legend boxer Muhammad Ali a sports person from Kerala on live TV and got slammed on social media for his lame sports IQ, is said to be the person responsible for this big move in the Sports department of Kerala.
