New Delhi: Veteran Indian cricketer Anil Kumble is set to be the next team India coach after BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur announced on Thursday morning that the decision will be taken by 5 o'clock in the evening.
Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble were the strongest personalities contending for the Team India coach position. While Anil Kumble was the preferred choice between the two, Shastri was considered a strong contender because of his intimate relationship with the Indian cricket team.
The three-member advisory committee, which consisted of Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, earlier said that they had not been instructed to consult with Indian captain Virat Kohli with his preference as the coach of the Indian cricket team.
Ganguly had personally vouched for an Indian national as the team India cricket coach and was appreciative of the feats achieved by Ravi Shastri.
A recipient of Padma Shri, Anil Kumble made his first-class debut for Karnataka against Hyderabad on 1989 and has successfully served as the Captain of the Indian cricket team.
