Mumbai: Anil Kumble, former Indian cricketer and legendary leg spinner, has been announced as the Team India coach by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Anurag Thakur.
Anil Kumble has been appointed for one year. The decision was taken by the committee comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman along with other prominent cricketers. People are also terming this as the decision by the ‘three wise men.’
Anurag Thakur, while announcing the decision was also quoted saying, “Kumble will be now transforming himself from a great cricketer to coach, and that’s why he has been appointed for a year as of now.”
“We are glad to say that BCCI has been very transparent as far as selection of Head coach is concerned,” said the BCCI chief while adding that the appointment of bowling, batting and assistant coaches will be made soon.
Anil Kumble holds the tag of the third-highest wicket taker with 619 wickets under his belt.
