New Delhi: As an alternative to the Champions League T-20 tournament that was slated to be held in the latter half of 2016, a mini IPL of 2 weeks’ duration is now going to be played in September 2016, though no official venue has been finalised yet.

After a successful 9th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which ended on 29th May 2016, saw Sunrisers Hyderabad clinching their maiden IPL title, the mini IPL may be an exciting alternative to the now-cancelled Champions League T-20 tournament. To give a twist to the IPL league and entertain the fans with some more interesting cricket, BCCI has now decided to conduct a mini version of the Indian T-20 league involving all the 8 IPL teams in a window of just 20 days.

BCCI President Anurag Thakur gave some details about the new decision at the Board's Working Committee meeting in Dharamshala and said that the tournament will be of short duration due to a tight schedule and the venue will probably be outside India. He also added that there will be lesser number of games and the tournament will be wound up in 20 days.

With the venue likely to be overseas, the time zone and broadcasting of the matches will be two major factors in deciding the final venue for the mini version of the popular IPL.

If sources are to be believed, USA and Canada are the two most preferable venues where the tournament might take place, but we will have to wait and see until the official statement is released from BCCI in the coming days.
