New Delhi: Top seed Serena Williams wins her 7th Wimbledon and 22nd Grand Slam title after defeating German Angelique Kerber in the finals of Wimbledon 2016.
The 34-year-old American tennis ace finally won her 22nd major title edging over her opponent Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 in Saturday's final. Williams tied Steffi Graf’s Open-era record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles. An energetic Serena kept a strong hold in the game and ensured she held Kerber with some power-packed shots.
The world no 1 after winning the historic title was delighted. "It's been incredibly difficult not to think about it," she said of finally winning number 22.
"It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked for it.”
"This court definitely feels like home, I have a match later today in the doubles, so I'll be back out."
Serena's win will help her forget the upset that happened at the Australian Open and French Open finals earlier this year. The 34-year-old is on the road to create history; Serena can still outpower the best of the players in the tennis arena.
