New Delhi: India’s advent into the Rio Olympics looked more colourful as triple jumper Renjith Maheshwari, sprinter Dharambir Singh and Jinson Johnson all qualified in their respective fields.

To qualify oneself at for the Rio Olympics, the distance set for triple jump was 16.85m which Mahesh passed superbly by jumped 17.30m, breaking the best of Arpinder Singh (17.17m).

In the track category, Maheshwari broke national record by clocking in 20.45s in the 20.50s mark for the 200m men’s category.

Jinson Johnson, however, simply qualified for the 800m event after registering 1.45s within the requirement of 1.46s.

Dharambir Singh is the first male Indian athlete to qualify in the 200m event.
