New Delhi: India’s advent into the Rio Olympics started with bad tidings after shot putter Inderjeet Singh tested positive for banned substance, becoming yet another Indian athlete to test positive on the needle after wrestler Narsingh Yadav.
The 28-year-old Rio-bound shot putter was allegedly caught using a banned steroid substance in a test conducted on June 22. Reported by the TOI, sources said, “The National Anti-Doping Agency sent a letter to the athletics federation this evening saying Inderjeet had failed a dope test.”
Inderjeet Singh has clinched the gold medal in Asian championships, Asian Grand Prix and the World University Games last year. People close to the wrestler and intimate with his progress claimed that the athlete might have come in contact with banned substance here in India.
“We were doubting something was wrong when we came to know about him avoiding the NADA tests. Our worst fears have come true,” sources said.
Wrestler Narsingh Yadav, who failed NADA doping test two times, also claimed that rivals had hatched up a conspiracy to botch his Olympic dreams.
