New Delhi: With less than 5 days left for the commencement for one of the major international multi-sport event — Olympic Games which are set to take place in the Brazilian capital of Rio de Janeiro, the Indian men and women hockey team are facing difficulties in availing basic facilities.

While the athletes and coaches of the other teams are working to ensure their teams bag as many medals in all the categories, the Indian high-performance director and head coach of the men's hockey team Roelant Oltmans is fighting for the basic needs of his team.

Roelant Oltmans in his mail to Rakesh Gupta, the chef de mission of the Indian contingent in Rio, Roelant complained about the lack of proper furniture for the athletes. The coach in his mail asked Gupta for the permission to purchase three more TV sets so that the athletes could continuously follow the Hockey competition during the Rio Games.

Complaining about the inadequate facilities Roelant said, "I also tried to rent more chairs but at this moment there are no chairs available in the Village." Asking that proper furniture be made available to the athletes, Roelant said that he needed another 28 chairs to avoid the injuries which athletes may get by sitting on bean bags.

In his letter to Rakesh Gupta, Roelant said, "We all want our hockey teams to perform well but we need to support them as well with the right conditions."
