Rio de Janeiro: Indian archer Deepika Kumari blamed ‘windy conditions’ after women recurve team crashed out of Olympics, losing to Russia in quarter-finals.
“It was very windy. We tried our best, and gave our 100% but it’s really disappointing to lose this way,” the Jharkhand archer said after the loss.
The trio of Deepika, Bombayla and Laxmirani lost to Russia in the quarter-final. Both teams had won 2 sets each at the end of the 4-set game. However, Russia held nerves and beat India by 25-23 in the final shoot-out.
The three archers will now be a part of the individual recurve event. “We have to keep fighting and bounce back like a tiger,” coach Poornima Mehto told the Olympians.
