Day 3 of India at Rio

New Delhi: A hopeful day for India ended on a shoddy note at Rio. Archers, shooters, hockey men, swimmers — none of the athletes could forward their mettle for a medal.
High expectations from the Indian men’s hockey team have been muddled now. India lost to Germany with a score of 1-2. Despite dominating the game for most of the parts and gaining 2 penalty corners, one of which was converted into a goal by Rupinder Pal, it was an agonising loss for India when Germany hit their second goal just 3 seconds before timeout.
On the shooting side, Abhinav Bindra’s last Olympic hasn’t been pleasant. He missed the bronze by 0.1 point. Bindra finished 4th in the 10m Air Rifle final. Bindra’s medal dream in his last Olympics has now been dashed.
The other Indian shooter Gagan Narang finished 23rd with a final score of 621.7 in the 10m Air Rifle final. He’s yet to compete in the 50m Air Rifle event.
Manavjeet Singh Sandhu finished with 115 and Kynan Chenai with 114. Both failed to qualify in the Men’s trap event.
Kerala’s Sajan Prakash finished 4th in the heats of the 200m butterfly event. He clocked 1:59.37.
India’s youngest contingent at Rio, swimmer Shivani Kataria finished 2nd. She was knocked out of the 200m freestyle event at her maiden Olympics campaign. India's challenge in swimming at Rio Olympics 2016 has also ended.
Archer Laxmirani Majhi lost 1-7 to Slovakia's Alexandra Longova. Majhi lost the first two sets of her event, drew the third and then lost the final.
The remaining two Indian women archers,Bombayla Devi and Deepika Kumari, will feature in the same event on Wednesday.
