New Delhi: Though the Indians at Rio 2016 Olympics might be falling short in their performances and being trolled online, Goodwill Ambassador for the Games by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) at the games, Sachin Tendulkar has given unconditional support to the players.

Recently, the famous columnist Shobhaa De had taken a dig at the Indian Athletes saying, 'Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.'

Sachin Tendulkar commonly known as ‘Cricket God’ took a stand for all the Indian Athletes as he slammed the famous columnist Shobha De. The ‘God’ said, "When the results don't go your way that is when you need to support them; although the first half didn't go our way but you have to support them when the chips are down.”

So far Tendulkar has been the only vocal supporter of the Indian athletes participating in the Rio Olympics.

In his recent conversation with the media after returning from the Olympics, Sachin said, "Olympics are the biggest and most competitive sporting event on Earth. It's not a joke to represent one's country. The athletes give their best in their efforts to win a medal. All the Indian athletes in Rio 2016 have my support."

While extending his support to the athletes, Tendulkar said that while he was in Rio he saw exactly how hard the athletes were working and it was painful for them to miss out on medals after years of hard work.

The legend had been in Rio before India's competitions started and had spent time with the members of the Indian continent at the Games Village. He also watched Rugby Sevens with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chief Thomas Bach.
