The 4 feet 8 inches tall 19-year-old American artistic gymnast Simone Arianne Biles has become the most decorated gymnast in United States history. Having never competed at the biggest stage, Simone entered Rio 2016 with immense pressure. The Texan teen has 14 World Championships medals to her name, 10 of them being gold. But, beneath the sheath of a powerful gymnast is a normal, bubbly teenage girl living her life to the fullest.
Born to Shanon Biles who was fighting alcohol and drug addiction, Simone was left in the care of her maternal grandfather. Shanon's father and stepmother took care of Simone and her younger sister on a temporary basis in Houston, Texas but later in 2000, the couple officially adopted both the girls.
Simone, like any other teenager loves to be with her friends and ‘Netflix and Chill’. Her immense crush on Hollywood heart-throb Zac Efron has made millions gush over her fandom and normalcy. But the now household name of Simone Biles was meant for things greater than anyone could anticipate or comprehend.

Biles first tried her hand at gymnastics when she was 6 years old as part of a day-care field trip. Looking at her sheer talent and capabilities the instructors suggested she continue with gymnastics. Biles soon enrolled in an optional training program at Bannon’s Gymnastix. She began training with coach Aimee Boorman at age 8 and has never looked backed ever since.
For the past 3 years she has won every team and individual all-around competition she’s competed in. Her difficulty and execution scores have been so astronomical that she was essentially competing against herself. Simone has a move named after her ‘the Biles’ which is a double layout with a half-twist and a blind landing.
At Rio 2016, she maintained this record, helping the ‘Final Five’ to gold as well as wiped the ‘floor’ during the individual competition with a score of 15.966. She also added a gold medal in vault with 15.966 and a 14.733 got her the bronze on the balance beam.
With exceptional talent and an astounding ability to seemingly execute just about any skill she wants, Simone has a competitive mindset that matches her physical abilities. She has already shown a rare ability to win and at the same time make it all seem like a lot of fun. Simone has become more than a gymnast; she has become a role model to millions across the globe.
