New Delhi: PV Sindhu has created history at the Rio Olympics 2016 by defeating Japan's Nozomi straight sets, assuring herself a silver medal. This makes her the first Indian woman to achieve this feat.

In her debut Olympics contention, Sindhu had beaten the odds to reach the semi-final of the Women’s Singles Badminton championship at the Rio Olympics 2016.

She has now entered the finals by defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara. 21-19, 21-10, in a straight set victory.

Sindhu will now face Spain's Carolina Marin in the finals on 19 Aug. 

Expressing joy over his daughter's semi-final victory, Sindhu's father said, "We are very happy."
