Uber celebrates PV Sindhu’s victory; replaces cars with shuttlecocks

New Delhi: Indian badminton player PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to clinch a silver medal in the Olympics games.

During her preliminary rounds in Rio, she defeated Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying in a straight game win (21-13, 21-15) in a 40-minute pre-quarterfinals match thereby making her way to the quarterfinals.

Sindhu faced Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the semi-finals, thus assuring India at least a silver medal. She lost 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 to world No. 1 Carolina Marin in the finals.

The badminton player took the internet by storm as wishes and appreciations poured in from all the corners for the 21-year-old from Hyderabad.

App-based taxi aggregator Uber on Sunday celebrated PV Sindhu’s victory at Rio Olympics 2016 by changing the cab icons on its real-time map to shuttlecocks. The map showed lots of tiny shuttlecocks waiting to pick the people.

Uber took to twitter to congratulate the ace badminton player.

The company's tweet read: “Little things that go a long way. Congratulations @Pvsindhu1! :) #Rio2016 #Ind.”

“Congratulations @Pvsindhu1 on the Silver Medal. Wish you great success throughout the year ahead. #Rio2016 #IndiaAtRio,” read another tweet.
