New Delhi: Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar who created history by qualifying for the vaults final has been appointed as the Assistant Director for Sports and Youth Affair by the Tripura Chief Minister.
CM Manik Sarkar honoured the historic performance by Dipa Karmakar in Agartala on Monday by announcing that Dipa's coach Nandi would be made Deputy Director of Sports Ministry in Tripura while she would be holding the office of Assistant Director in the ministry.
The 23-year-old gymnast will be conferred the position once the cabinet passes the proposal tomorrow.
Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and silver medallist PV Sindhu were also received to an ecstatic crowd in their own hometown. Although Dipa's performance did not result in a medal, her performance is being hailed as one of the toughest to execute in the world.
