New Delhi: Indian freestyle wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt’s sample will be tested before his medal is upgraded to silver, reports said.
A top Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) official said Yogeshwar Dutt’s sample needs to be tested and found clean before his medal from London Olympics could be upgraded.
Yogeshwar’s dope test from the London Olympic Games has to be cleared by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) before he could be handed the medal, he added.
“Yogeshwar’s tests are being conducted and once his dope test comes out clean, then only he will be handed the silver medal,” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
The sudden medal upgradation comes after Russia’s Besik Kudukhov was stripped off his medal for failing dope test.
Earlier in the day, Yogeshwar Dutt had commented on his medal upgradation, saying that he wants Besik’s family to keep the medal.
“If possible, let the medal be with Besik’s family. It would keep his family’s honour intact. For me, humanity is above everything,” the wrestler wrote on his Twitter account.
