New Delhi: The comment made by BJP MP Satyapal Singh in a tweet has given rise to a new debate. The BJP party member tweeted that the name of Khel Ratna should be changed to the name of a sportsperson instead of a politician.

Speaking on this issue, hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand's son Ashok Kumar Dhyan Chand in a telephonic interview to NewsX said, "Politicians have a different league and their names should be used as signature awards in the particular field. In case of sports the awards should be named after sports personalities who have achieved laurels for the nation".

Ashok Dhyan Chand also said that every issue is politicised and now efforts should be made to keep politics out of sports.

The Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honour of India, is named after Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India.

The MP has suggested that the name of Khel Ratna be changed to sporting legend Dhyan Chand's name.
