New Delhi: Spanish giant Real Madrid on Sunday recorded its 16th consecutive win when they beat Espanyol 2-0 to gain three points and move to the top in the La Liga points table.
Real Madrid was playing without the enigmatic Cristiano Ronaldo and the powerful Gareth Bale who usually pose as a constant threat to the opposition. However, striker James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema equalled the absence of the two players and scored a goal each to put Real Madrid on a 2-0 lead against Espanyol.
Espanyol did threaten Real's defence at different intervals, only to be nullified at the last moment by the goalkeeper. Diego Lopez, on the other hand, did some good stretching for the ball, but was ultimately overpowered by both Benzema and Rodriguez.
Real Madrid's unbeaten streak on the sheet means they're first on the table followed by Barcelona.
