New Delhi: The Indian cricket team will be celebrating its 500th Test match today at Kanpur against a determined New Zealand team. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev will also be among the crowd to mark the historic occasion.

The match against New Zealand etches the beginning of a three-Test series followed by matches against England, Bangladesh and Australia this season. After the 2-0 win against New Zealand in the four-match series, India will be aiming for a victory which will decide in an elevation in ranking for Virat Kohli's men.

India was beaten to the top spot by Pakistan after rain latched the doors for victory against West Indies. The Virat Kohli-led team is hopeful that they will reclaim the throne before Pakistan takes to the pitch against West Indies.

As far as India's form goes, they look to be in great condition as they've won three out of the four matches they've played at home. And with the celebration of India's 500th Test today at Kanpur, India looks to cap it all off with a solid victory — rain or not.
