Wriddhiman Saha remained unconquered on 54 (85b, 7×4, 2×6) as the Indian essay folded 87 minutes into the pre-lunch session.
Ravindra Jadeja (14), Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (5) and Mohammad Shami (14) were dimissed after the hosts resumed at the overnight total of 239/7.
For the Kiwis, Matt Henry (3/46), Trent Boult (2/46), Neil Wagner (2/57), Jeetan Patel (2/66) and Mitchell Santner (1/83) were the successful bowlers.
