New Delhi: Tennis queen and former world number one Maria Sharapova on Tuesday hailed the reduction of her two-year doping ban as one of the “happiest days” of her life.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday reduced the tennis players’ two-year drugs ban by nine months.

In a statement issued by the tennis player on her social media account, she said, “I’ve gone from one of the toughest days of my career last March when I learned about my (provisional) suspension to now, one of my happiest days, as I found out I can return to tennis in April.” She even added, “Tennis is my passion and I have missed it. I am counting the days until I can return to the court.”

The Russian ace had tested positive for the heart-boosting meldonium at the Australian Open in January this year and was handed the original ban by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in June.
