New Delhi: Grappler Yogeshwar Dutt’s hopes of having his London Olympics bronze medal upgraded to silver were dashed on Monday as International Olympic Committee decided to drop the doping charges against Russia’s deceased wrestler Besik Kudukhov.
Kudokhov had clinched the silver medal in men’s freestyle 60kg category at the 2012 London Olympics and was killed in a car crash in the same year. His sample was found positive for a banned steroid in a re-test giving rise to speculations that he might be stripped off his medal. There were also suggestions that Dutt’s medal will be upgraded to silver in view of the incident.
However, a three-member IOC disciplinary commission has decided to terminate the investigation against the Russian grappler.
The IOC has been re-testing samples taken from both Beijing 2008 and London 2012 using up-to-date methods to detect banned substances.
