New Delhi: Citing that the imposition of Hijab on shooters competing at the Asian Airgun Shooting Championship is not in the spirit of the game, Indian shooter and defending champion Heena Sidhu has withdrawn her name from the December event in Tehran.

The Asian Airgun Championship is going to be held in Iran in December. However, the committee had unanimously decided that female contestants participating in the event should wear Hijab.

“Forcing tourists or foreign guests to wear ‘hijab’ is against the spirit of the game. Since I don’t like it, I have withdrawn my name,” Heena was quoted as saying by TOI. “You follow your religion and let me follow mine. I’ll not participate in this competition if you are going to force me to comply with your religious beliefs,” she said.
