London: World number 2 Novak Djokovic defeated Milos Raonic 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5) here to claim a berth in the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals.
 
The Serb needed 2 hours and 14 minutes during the match on Tuesday to dispatch the Canadian in the match at London’s O2 Arena, Efe news reported.
 
Raonic can still reach the semifinals with a win against Belgium’s Dominic Thiem, who beat Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 earlier Tuesday.
 
Djokovic, meanwhile, is poised to reclaim the number 1 ranking from Britain’s Andy Murray if he reaches the final and wins.
 
Murray faces Japan’s Kei Nishikori on Wednesday for another of the semifinal slots.
