New Delhi: Colombian soccer legend Faustino Asprilla believes that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is a bad influence on teammate James Rodriguez who shot to fame after playing for Colombia in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Asprilla said that James Rodriguez had inherited some of the on-field qualities of the globally-famous Madrid players. The Colombian star claimed that Rodriguez was lately performing on the pitch with negative body languages.

From throwing gestures towards his teammates who do not pass him the ball or playing like Ronaldo on the pitch, Asprilla said that all these qualities counted as negative actions.

“Lately what I am seeing from James – who I love and respect a lot – is that his friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid is damaging him. He has the same gestures when they don’t give him the ball [in the Colombia team]. When they don’t give Cristiano the ball he gesticulates to everyone. In Colombia [James] waves his arms at his teammates,” Asprilla told ESPN.

“At the start of the game he scowled at Alavarez Balanta and made a gesture. I don’t know if it was because he didn’t pass the ball or not.”

Asprilla, who has played for Newcastle and Parma, said that if James tried these antics at an international pitch, he would ‘get a slap’.
