Fuzhao: Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu on Sunday thrashed China’s Sun Yu in China Open final and won her maiden Super Series title in Fuzhao.
The Indian batminton star PV Sindhu defeated Chinese Sun Yu by 21-11, 17-21, 21-11. World No. 11 Sindhu defeated the 9th ranked Sun Yu, who had not lost a single game, except today’s one, in the tournament.
Earlier, Sindhu edged past Sung ji Hyun of South Korea to advance to the final of the China Superseries Premier badminton tournament, while Sun Yu moved past Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying 21-8, 23-21 in 46 minutes on November 19.
The Indian seventh seed lost the first game 11-21 but fought back to snatch the next two games 23-21, 21-19 respectively. The thrilling encounter lasted an hour and 24 minutes.
