New Delhi: English Premier League (EPL) returned on Saturday after an international break and some grueling games were played this weekend. Main highlight of the Saturday night football was Manchester United’s game against Arsenal while Liverpool lost the top spot to Chelsea in the EPL table.

Arsenal were shambolic throughout the game as they struggled to keep possession and test opposition’s goalkeeper. After Juan Mata gave the lead to Manchester United with a superb finish, the hosts were in total control and dominated most of the play. Olivier Giroud was introduced late into the match and the super sub equalized the score for Arsene Wenger’s men with a thumping header. With this, Arsenal drew the game 1-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Continuing his superb form this season, Watford’s Etienne Capoue opened the score in the first minute against Leicester City. The defending champions Leicester lost 2-1 to Watford and fall to 14th position in the EPL table.

Sunderland defeated Hull City 3-0 as V. Anichebe scored two brilliant goals while Stoke City lost 1-0 to high flying Bournemouth.

Liverpool were held at 0-0 goalless draw by determined Southampton. Liverpool has significantly rejuvenated under Jurgen Klopp and has been in tremendous form this season but the draw against Saints was a big blow as they lost their lead at the top.

Swansea and Everton played another draw as their match ended 1-1.

Manchester City continued their charge for the title with their 1-2 victory over Alan Pardew’s Crustal Palace. Yaya Toure, who has had his fair share of tussle with Guardiola in the recent past, was back at his best scoring two goals for City.

Harry Kane kept Tottenham Hotspurs in title hunt as he scored twice to see out the game 3-2 against hard-working West Ham United.

Chelsea usurped Liverpool from the top spot by winning the Sunday night clash 0-1 against Middlesbrough. Blues striker Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game.
