MS Dhoni fined 75% of match fee for shoving Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman

MIRPUR: India Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 75% of his match fees on Friday for reportedly pushing young Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman at the time of their first One Day International (ODI) of the three-match cricket series.

While chasing an imposing 308-run target set by Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium on Thursday, Dhoni was charged with Level 2 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct for elbowing the debutant pacer.

The incident happened in the 25th over of the match as India was chasing and Rahman came in Dhoni’s way while he was completing his follow through as Captain Cool was running for a single. The replays clearly show Dhoni shoving Rahman while trying to reach crease.

In order to inform him about the hearing, match referee Andy Pycroft summoned Team India manager Biswarup Dey last night.

Sources inform that a collective call was taken by the team management that the skipper would not plead guilty in this matter as he never intended to hurt the bowler and therefore, the administrative manager filled the form where India decided to contest the charge.

While Dhoni has been fined 75 per cent of his match fee for the incident, Mustafizur on the other hand has been docked half of his fee.

Mustafizur had earlier repeated the offence when Rohit Sharma was batting and hence was fined 50% of his match fee.
