Team India — the world number 1 cricket team — which has remained unbeaten in 19 straight Test matches is now all set to face their rivals, Team Australia, in the upcoming 4-Test series under the captaincy of Virat ‘the run machine’ Kohli. This time Team India will not only be playing to maintain their winning momentum but also will be aiming for a ‘huge’ incentive.
The catch is, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a price reward of $1 million (Rs 6.7 cr) for Team India if they are able to ‘smash’ the Aussies in the first Test which is scheduled to take place on February 23 in Pune.
If Team India wins the 1st Test, they will remain the undisputed champions till April 1. India currently has 121 points and Australia is at 109.
On the other hand, the rivals need to defeat Team India by 4-0 in order to reclaim their number 1 spot. However, If Australia wins the series with a 3-0 margin, then the two teams will jointly share the number 1 spot.
It seems the Men in Blue will need to win at least one Test or draw at least two matches to uphold their spot.
The first Test will be played in Pune on February 23 where as Bengaluru, Ranchi and Dharamsala are the other venues for the remaining 3 Tests.
