Former Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Shibaji Banerjee passed away on Sunday evening following a heart attack.

The 60-year-old played for Mohun Bagan for 11 years. He delivered his most memorable performance during the 1977 exhibition match against New York Cosmos, where he stopped a free-kick taken by legendary footballer Pele.

Banerjee was a senior officer in charge of recruitment at Port Trust. He served in various committees of Mohun Bagan club after retirement.

Mohun Bagan’s flag will remain half mast as a mark of respect for the departed soul.
