It was a game to forget for Middlesbrough on Sunday as they were abysmal in defence and shambolic in attack, losing the English Premier League (EPL) match 3-1 to Manchester United at Riverside Stadium.

Towering midfielder Marouane Fellaini broke the deadlock in the 30th minute of the game when he headed a goal from a tight angle. By converting Antonio Valencia’s cross, Fellaini ended his 30-match goalless run for Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard doubled the lead for Jose Mourinho’s men in the 62nd minute with a beautifully taken finesse shot from 20 yards out.

After a poor display in the first half, Middlesbrough grew into the game and Gestede pulled back one for the home side.

Middlesbrough’s Victor Valdes made a howler in the dying minutes of the game, gifting a 3-1 victory to the visitors.

Barring the blunder made in the injury minutes, Valdes did not deserve to be on the losing side. The Spaniard denied two fantastic strikes by United’s Marcus Rashford.

The Old Trafford outfit looked composed on the pitch, having started the game without their star trio of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera.

Continuing life without recently sacked manager Aitor Karanka, Middlesbrough struggled throughout the game.

With this win, Manchester United keeps their top four finish hopes alive while Middlesbrough find themselves in the relegation zone.
