In the annals of India vs Pak game, Women’ cricket would tomorrow take on the arch rivals and Asian counterparts Pakistan in the third ever encounter between both teams of World Cup.

The most revelation part of Indian contingent is the drastic improvement of Sushma Verma, the player from Himachal. Leading is the batting department where top three Indians, Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana and Poonam Raut have scored a total of 399 as compared to team Pakistan that scored a total of 107 in its last match against England, at Women World Cup, Taunton. Bowling department, a healthy mix of experienced pace and economical spin bowling leads the way.

Head to Head

In past encounters with Pakistan during World Cup, India has maintained a score of 2-0. Recording its first victory in 2009 by 10 wickets at Bradman Oval where Harmanpreet made her debut, the second one was scored in Cuttack by 6 wickets in 2013. Overall, in the history of ODI, India has faced Pak for seven times and won at all occasions.

Skipper Mithali Raj is in its best form currently and interestingly scored her first century in the history of World Cup against Pakistan at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, 2013.

While leading scorer Mahida Khan has scored a total of 82 runs in 107 balls across two matches, against South Africa and England, India’s left hand batswoman, Smriti Mandhana has scored a staggering figure of 196 in 180 balls with one century against West Indies and one half century against England.

Tough trio of Smriti Mandhana, Poonam Raut and Mithali Raj has scored a total of 399 runs on 480 balls inclusive of 42 fours and 5 sixes in the last two matches against England and West Indies whereas, Pak’s total is 313, in its last two matches against England and South Africa. While this seems as not so encouraging for team Pakistan, another upset for the team is absence due to hand injury of highest ranked ODI batter, Bismah Maroof.

India’s avenge for Men’s lost game

India appears as semi-finalists with its recent victory over last World Cup’s runner up team, West Indies. Creating a historic win against the Caribbean’s by 8 wickets, the star was middle order bowling and smart wicket keeping behind stumps by the super transformed Sushma Verma, Mithali who master-class and Mandhana, a mayhem with bat exploding in the middle. While Sushma missed two stumps behind the wicket against England, the Himachal girl was quick to seize the opportunity on three stumps act and a catch against the Caribbean’s in their second match against West Indies.

Trailing Pak fear of another fine

While Bismah Maroof’s replacement has been accepted by the technical committee, Iram, 25, is ready to take the stage for the all-rounder and leg-breaker. Iram has played seven ODIs in which she has scored 37 runs and taken three wickets. On the other hand, Captain Sana Mir who reached a double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets is another ray of hope for the team.

However, in their first encounter against South Africa in World Cup, Pak ladies lost the race by 3 wickets against a target chase of 207 runs. The second face off against team England was more disappointing resulting in losing out by 107 runs that shattered the confidence for Pakistan. On the other hand, the hand injury of ever dependent, Bismah Maroof (T20 Captain) came as a hitch for the team.

While team Pakistan has already been found guilty of maintaining slow over rates, another such minor over rate offence could land Captain Sana Mir into trouble with suspension for a single match.  It will also be interesting to see spinner Nashra Sandhu, who made her debut in 2017 against South Africa in her first match against India that would be covered in the air of qualms on the ground of Taunton.
