Marseille have signed a contract with Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo, the French side announced on Tuesday. “He is a measure of experience and an insurance against any risks for his new coach, Rudi Garcia,” Marseille said in the statement on its website.

It did not reveal any financial details of the deal, but local media have estimated that the French club paid $9 million for the Brazilian international.

Luiz Gustavo, capped 42 times by Brazil, won the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and was part of the squad that ended in 4th place in the FIFA World Cup 2014.

At the club level, he has played for three German sides, Hoffenheim (2007-2011), Bayern Munich, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League, the German Super-cup and Bundesliga’s titles, before he moved to Wolfsburg in 2013.
