The speculations regarding the Head Coach for Team India were put rest after Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) announced Ravi Shastri as the coach for two years, until the ICC 2019 World Cup. However, in a press conference by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it said that all names are under deliberating process and no appointment has been done yet.
While addressing the media over new Head Coach of Team India BCCI’s Amitabh Chaudhary said, “CAC is still deliberating over the applicants and a formal announcement could be made later.”
Speaking to the media Amitabh Chaudhary said that CAC is doing a great job and he is sure that the coach’s name will be announced soon. He further added that the BCCI is extremly sensitive on this subject.
Commenting on the process of Coach Selection, Chaudhary said that CAC has the full freedom to narrow down on the coach’s name. Stating BCCI’s satnd in the process, Amitabh Chaudhary said that BCCI will step in after the final recommendation from CAC.
He also said, “I am expecting the decision today.”
The hunt for the new Team India Coach had come up after the ace spinner Anil Kumble stepped down from the post following a spat between Kumble and Kohli. As per sources, skipper Kohli had been facing differences with Kumble. The differences were also being linked to the massive defeat which was faced by Team Indian in Champions Trophy against Pakistan.
Shastri is said to be close to Indian Skipper Virat Kohli. As per reports, if Shastri gets elected, his first assignment with the team will be the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, where the first Test starts on July 26.
Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri the new team India coach was also a former Director for the Indian cricket team. He has represented the Indian national team in both Test and One-Day matches between 1981 and 1992.
