The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday in a press conference announced Bharat Arun as Team India’s new bowling coach till the next World Cup. The central cricket board also appointed Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar as assistant and fielding coaches.
According to reports, Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri will also be meeting Committee of Administrators (CoA) to discuss the issue of support staff.
Meanwhile, the Board did speak about the roles of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan and said that they will act as consultants for the team. However, the air is still not clear on their final role in the team.
Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri, who was also present at the press conference said, “Spoke to both Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan personally, they are fantastic cricketers; their inputs will be invaluable.”
The decision was taken after the newly-formed four member committee of the BCCI, comprising acting President CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji and board CEO Rahul Johri, met with new head coach Ravi Shastri.
Earlier, in an interview to a leading daily, Shastri said that he had a great working relationship with the current team and added that the team always belongs to the captain first and it is he who calls the shots.
BCCI on July 12 had announced Ravi Shastri as new head coach of the Indian cricket team.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar & VVS Laxman had conducted interviews for the national coach earlier in the day.
