Manchester United defeated their home rivals Manchester City 2-0 to make it 3 out of 3 wins in their pre-season tour to the United States.
Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford were once again on the scoring sheet to help United get past Pep Guardiola’s men. Lukaku scored the opener in the 37th minute, beating the City goal keeper Ederson on left flank with a perfect slid into the nets.
Rashford extended the lead in the 39th minute, scoring from a fine Henrikh Mkhitaryan assist. He executed a fine finish on the lower left corner of City goalkeeper Ederson who couldn’t do much about it and saw the ball sailing in.
United kept looking for goals, after significant changes in the first half with Romero replacing De gea at nets. Samir Nasri was a surprise in City colours, the French came back from his loan-term at Sevilla to feature in his first game for Pep Guardiola.
It was not a debut to remember for City’s new goal-keeper Ederson, who was troubled by United attackers throughout the game.
Manchester United survived a scare in the 76th minute when Romero got caught out of goal as he came for a cross, but Phil Foden’s attempt was lobbed over the bar.
United got their first Manchester derby win outside England. Both Manchester United and City will now face Real Madrid on 25th and 26th July respectively.
