Indian Para high jumpers Sharad Kumar and Varun Singh Bhati won Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the finals of High Jump T42 category at World Para Athletics Championships in London. The double winner duo extended India’s medal tally to 5 in the competition. Sharad’s best 1.84m was seconded by USA’s Sam Grewe, while Bhati managed a jump of 1.77m finishing 3rd.
India now has a total of 5 medals in the ongoing Championships; here is the list of winners:

Varun become the latest para athlete to clinch a medal in the competition, he has earlier won a Bronze in the same category event at the Rio Paralympics. His story is an array of inspiration for everyone, born and brought up in NCR’s Greater Noida region, he always wanted to become an athlete and bring laurels to the nation, the 22 year old was left struck with his left leg due to polio disease, but the boy never lost hope and chased his dreams.
Varun won his first medal at 2014 China Open Athletics Championships, where he clinched Gold and later in 2016 he won another Gold at 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championship.
He announced himself to the world when he bagged home a Bronze at the Rio 2016 Paralympics leaving everyone stunned with his brilliant jump.
