Manchester United concluded their pre season tour with a convincing 2-1 win over Sampdoria in a full packed encounter at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

New arrival Nemanja Matic made his unofficial United debut as the Red Devils edged past the Italian rivals Sampdoria. Jose Mourinho admitted in the press conference after the match that the Serbian needs time before he settles well with his new team mates, but Matic did enough against the Italians to convince Mourinho of his inclusion in the playing XI against Real Madrid in the Super Cup clash on August 8.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring for United, netting his 3rd pre season goal from a beautiful counter attack. David De gea avoided a scary own goal attempt from Daley Blind who misplaced a lazy ball towards United goal.

Sampdoria had a brief chance at goal with the free kick awarded to them after De gea saved an own goal scare, but the attempt was blocked by the United wall.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan grabbed his 3rd pre season goal, heading in a strong cross from Matteo Darmian on the left flank. With this goal the midfielder seemed likely to have also cemented his chances of a place in the Super Cup squad.

The second half saw Mourinho making four changes in the side, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata were brought in for Matic, Pogba, Pereira and Mkhitaryan.

Ander Herrera was once again at his sublime best in the United midfield, the Spainiard thought he was away with the second goal of the match but his goal was flagged offside.  Minute’s later Praet scored the equaliser for the Italians.

Ten minutes before game time, Juan Mata netted the winner for the Europa League winners after Anthony Martial played around the Sampdoria backline providing a slick assist to his United team mate for the second.
