Debutant Kylian Mbappe starred on Friday in Paris Saint-Germain’s 5-1 rout of Ligue 1 opponents Metz in a match played at Stade Saint-Symphorien. Neymar was on the scoresheet as well while Edinson Cavani scored a brace.
In a much anticipated first appearance for PSG, Kylian Mbappe was truely sensational on the pitch for his new club. He timely bursted on the flanks and wreaked havoc in Metz defence with his mazy dribbles and pinpoint passing.
Edinson Cavani opened the score for PSG with a neat finish after rounding the opponent’s goalkeeper but that lead lasted short as Riviere equalised the score for Metz in the 37th minute of the game.
It was the second half of the game that PSG turned ruthless and showed rest of their French league competitors of what is to come.
The attacking trio of Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani bombarded Metz’s defence with an array of shots on goal. Debutant Mbappe gave PSG lead in 69th minute by striking in a loose ball while Neymar made it 3-1 with a long shot 10 minutes later.
Cavani secured his brace in the 75th minute as Lucas Moura completed the mauling with a neat finish.
With one of the most expensive attacking line-up in the history of football, PSG has signalled a warning to their continental rivals. The domestic competition is undoubtedly their’s to lose but how well will they fare in Champions League remains to be seen.
